Foundry Metallurgy & Chemistry Control

The Metallurgy Department manages alloy chemistry, metallurgical control and casting quality at Knights Foundry's Wadeville, Gauteng foundry. Every melt is analysed and controlled against the customer's specified material requirements before release for pouring.

Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES) is used to verify chemical composition, with chemistry adjusted where required. No melt is released for pouring until the required specification is aligned.

Function Description
OES Chemistry Control Chemical composition is analysed with an Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES) against the customer specification.
Specification Melt Release No melt is released for pouring until the required chemistry is aligned.
Alloy Development Refines metal strength, durability and performance for high-demand applications.
Process Control Monitors melting, pouring and solidification to prevent defects.
Quality Assurance Ensures adherence to ASTM, ISO and customer-specific standards.
Failure Analysis Investigates casting defects and develops corrective actions.
